History:

Lestat was born in the mid 1700s, to an aristocratic but poor family. Only two of his six siblings survived to adulthood. Lestat only has a positive relationship with his mother, who taught him to write; his relationship with the males in his family is horrific, to say the least. He runs away repeatedly, but always returns, not wanting to leave his mother alone. He eventually becomes a great hunter, and earns the nickname 'wolfkiller'.

After a particularly bad hunt, Lestat decides to leave for Paris, taking his love Nicholas with him. Nicholas is the only true friend he has, and they are utterly devoted to one another. While on stage, he gains the attraction of a vampire named Magnus--who eventually turns Lestat, and commits suicide.

He gives Lestat no tutelage, no knowledge on how to act as a vampire. He both revels and is frightened by his powers in turn. When his mother shows up in Paris, dying of consumption, he doesn't hesitate to turn her....but as as he was a human, she was a vampire as well. Singular, solitary, and more willing to test her limits than Lestat was. They do not last long together, in the end.

Lestat and Nicholas continue a strained relationship, as Lestat attempts to hide who he is from his lover. However, events ruin this. A coven of vampires, who run a theater headed by the vampire Armand, want Lestat to join them--and realize using Nicholas would most likely be the best way to do this.

Capturing the violinist, they torture him, and taunt Lestat with him. While Lestat eventually frees Nicholas, he is fundamentally changed from the experience, and demands that Lestat turn him into a vampire. Lestat, unable to deny Nicholas anything, does as asked....to disastrous results. Nicholas is driven mad by the gift, and eventually is killed by Armand.

It is an event that shapes the rest of Lestat's life, and leads to a grudge with Armand that, despite occasionally playing nice, never truly goes away.

Out of grief, Lestat makes for New Orleans, where he tries to make a new life. There, he meets a young man named Louis, who reminds him distinctly of Nicholas. It is this reason that he chooses to turn him. Their relationship is tempestuous at best, for Louis hates being a vampire, and finds no joy in it as Lestat has learned.

Note: In the books, at sometime in the late 1700s, Lestat encounters a vampire named Marius. While very influential on his life (they gain a father-son type of relationship, and Marius is the one who gave him the name 'brat prince', canonly Anne Rice made it difficult to pinpoint *when* in the timeline this occurred.

Worried that Louis is going to leave him, Lestat turns a young girl named Claudia into a vampire, to raise as their 'child'. While she takes to being a vampire naturally, and learns eagerly from Lestat--she gives all her love to Louis. It frustrates Lestat, again feeling as if he's being shut out--but as long as they stay a family unit, he is relatively happy, despite the increasing tensions in the group.

Sixty five years after turning Claudia, things come to a head. Claudia, determined that she needs to break free from Lestat, drugs him and violently assaults him. Believing him dead, Louis helps Claudia dump the body.

...he comes back, however, determined to gain vengeance. Claudia and Louis burn their house down around him, and thinking him dead once more, flee to Paris.

Lestat however, survives. It isn't until the 1980s, however, that his full conciousness returns. While Louis claims that Lestat went after them in Paris, and that they met again in New Orleans at the start of the 20th century, Lestat denies any of this having happened. His memory isn't reliable, and it is led up to the reader who to believe.

It is in the 80s that Lestat forms a rock band, and is determined to expose himself to the world at large, making it a large farce. Other vampires are furious, and are determined to stop him--the bigger problem, however, is that he awakens the queen of all vampires with his songs. She takes Lestat on as a companion, wanting him to help her bring the world into eternal darkness, ruled by vampires. In a rare sign of selflessness, Lestat rejects what she wants, and helps bring her down, to protect the other vampires. The blood he drinks from her, and from other incredibly old vampires, that makes him almost an undefeatable god--something that causes him to truly struggle with what it means to have a soul and humanity...and leads him to his next adventure.

In the Tale of the Body Thief, Lestat attempts to commit suicide out of depression and a complete loss of what to do with himself. When it doesn't work, he goes and visits his friend David Talbot. After a series of events, he meets a man who knows how to switch bodies, allowing Lestat to become human. The man, however, has no intention of giving Lestat his own frame back, leaving him in a sick human frame. He learns to hate it, and none of his vampire friends will help him (Louis, of course, is jealous, and Lestat burns his house down in a fit of rage). The only friends he is left with is a dog he finds, which he names Mojo, and Talbot.

Through a series of events, Lestat ends up gaining control of his body once more. He turns Talbot into a vampire, despite his wishes...and Talbot leaves for South America with Louis. Lestat, despite all he has been through, is alone again.

Which is how he started, and most likely, how he will end.

Personality:

One would think being over 200 years old would bring Lestat maturity...and in may ways it hasn't. Called the "Brat Prince" by many of his elder vampires, Lestat is known for his selfish, self absorbed, petulant behavior. He tends to only see things in terms of how it will benefit him and/or his friends-- although that group tends to change regularly due to his behavior. Even those vampires he creates usually end up drifting away from him. The only vampire who ever is willing to give him multiple chances (rather than simply 'deal' with him, as he is the major actor in many plots), is Louis--but it is well known that he is masochistic, and his relationship with Lestat is beyond co-dependent. Even then, if another vampire companion is made available to Louis, he will leave Lestat. It is just one example of how those vampires who love him can barely tolerate him, at times. He is literally like a toddler, at times. If he is told not to touch it, he will touch it and rub against it repeatedly, if for no other reason but to piss people off.

However--there are times Lestat can be highly altruistic. He could have become another King with Akashka, but he chooses to take her down, to protect the others. This is one of the more dynamic and changing parts in his life. Akashka was utterly enthralled with Lestat, and for a time, he is with her. Normally, Lestat would have taken what she would have given him, and damned the consequences. But he came to realize that he would have been trapped in a life he would have hated, over time, and it would have also meant the death of his fellow vampires. His deeper, truer feelings won out, and he helped kill her, to protect his friends.

Lestat has goodness in him, real goodness, but he tries to ignore it as best he can, as if it will help him forget what he once was. While he doesn't need to feed any longer, when he does choose to feed, he feeds on murderers, thieves, rapists. He feeds on the dregs of society, instead of feeding at will, as he used to. It's another example of how he has changed over the years, and become someone better than he once was.

He didn't start as cynical, but the events early on in his life, with the loss of his lover Nicholas, his time with Armand have made him less inclined to see good in people. A great deal of his issues stem from his own actions, but no one lies to Lestat better than himself. If there is something that simply doesn't fit in with his world view at the time, or how he wants to present himself to the world, he simply shuts it out of his mind, to be forgotten until a later date. He has a great deal of regrets, of guilt, but Lestat forces himself to ignore it, as best he can, even if it presents itself unconsciously in his actions.

As a human he was very lonely--the only people he truly cared for were his mother and his best friend, Nicholas. However, his mother tended to hold him off from a distance, despite his abiding love for her. It fed how he was as a vampire, always looking for attention and love, even if he attempted to shove people away when he received it. He would rather hurt than be hurt, even if the pain he suffered in the end was the same.

Nicholas however, became a dear lover and friend. It was the loss of him that continues to haunt him, that shows his humanity when he is most melancholic. While Lestat at times blames Armand for what happened, he blames himself most--though he would rarely admit that to a soul. During his early years as a vampire, he lived a very frivolous life and genuinely cared about people. He changed both his mother and Nicholas to help them, to keep them alive and with him--however, both proved disastrous. It proved to Lestat that he was truly damned--that if God existed, he was a fool. It is in this way he his a philosopher, always asking why vampires exist, and if God existed, were they part of his plan, or somehow a product that had grown away from God himself.

Though initially disturbed by modern society, Lestat is naturally curious and learns to enjoy the world around him--as he always does. He is very superficial, loving clothing, music, looking amazing. He also tends to be highly contrary and will do the exact opposite of what he is told just to prove a point. He practically shows vampires to the world at large just because he knows he shouldn't. There is a great thrill in him to do things that simply have not been done before. It is one of the rare joys he gets from life, when much has lost it's shine.

Though he would deny it, above all else, Lestat is desperate for affection and love. He never fully recovered from the death of Nicholas, and it is his main motivation behind going to Louis. It is the reason he creates Claudia--to keep Louis from leaving. Besides Nicholas, the only other person who can truly pierce his armor is Louis, the man who chose humanity over the unnatural gifts that being a vampire provided him. However, he tends to ignore his pain to prove to himself he is fine--that he doesn't need the one person he needs the most.

The vampire Marius, and the human-turned vampire David Talbot also greatly cared for Lestat (forming the father-son relationships he never had as a child), but even they can never stop him from what he truly wants. It is his relationship with David that truly shaped his recent years. David works for the Talamasca, and worked with Lestat during the events of Queen of the Damned, and again in Tale of the Body Thief. He is the only person who is willing to help Lestat when his body is stolen. Louis, Marius--all other vampires shun him. He is truly without friends, and David steps up to help him track down his body, and stop the man who has stolen it.

Lestat, despite all this, despite everything David has done for him (without him he would never have been able to get his body back)...betrays his lone friend. David never wished to become a vampire. He was happy being human, content in it. But Lestat, afraid his friend might leave him now that the adventure is over, can't have it--and he turns him against his will. It is a rare showing of the old Lestat, and a clear showing that despite his changes, he hasn't banished the old self completely--and that he probably doesn't wish to.

Lestat is a creature of his own whims, and does what he wishes, damn the consequences.

Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations:

Abilities

-- Super human strength

-- Super human speed

-- The ability to read minds

-- No longer needs a great deal of human blood to survive

-- telekinesis and pyrokinesis

Weaknesses

-- Arrogant, and stubborn. He will sometimes do things just because he is told he can't--which gets him into a great deal of trouble.

--Despite being able to survive in sunlight, he still needs to rest for periods of time, which is when he is most 'vulnerable' (though if he can be killed, he truly doubts it).

--Lestat doesn't look human. While makeup and spending time under UV light can help, he will never appear to be human once more. His skin, his pallor, the way he moves so entirely other, that it can unsettle people.

Power Limitations

I will be removing his power of flight, and lowering his strength to make it impossible for him to punch through the ship metal, obviously. Additionally, while he is technically unkillable (at least to his understanding, at this point), the ship will have the capability of killing him via jump/special ship mojo?

Inventory:

* His large dog Mojo (most likely a newfoundland. The thing is huge.)
* 3 sets of clothing
* 1 violin
* Make up to cover his skin

Lestat, regardless of his age, has shoulder length blonde hair, and
grey eyes that can take on blue or purple tones at times. He is six
foot, and is very devoted to modern clothing--he can and will wear the
latest fashions.

Note: Some of what Lestat is thinking isn't true. He likes to lie, to himself, most of all. It's why it doesn't necessarily match with canonical events.

Lestat was miserable. He hated to even say that, really, but it was the truth; and this time he was unable to shy away from that fact. His time as a human had proven to himself that he didn’t need that mortality to regain his humanity…it had been himself all along. Not that it had mattered, though. Talbot had gotten what he wanted--immortality, the dark gift. And Louis had left him.

Insufferable, bloody stupid Louis. His (now former) lover had never truly been able to give up his humanity…and no matter how hard Lestat tried to prove that he still had a bit of it left in himself, Louis shunned the signs. His creole fledgeling simply wanted to wallow in his misery.

That had never been Lestat’s style. As he walked along the dark streets of Los Angeles, he tried to sort things out. He needed to get back to New Orleans. No matter how many years past, he felt home in that old city. Perhaps he would fly back there tonight. It would give him time to resettle himself, to find peace once more. Mojo would be waiting for him, the one true friend he had, now. It reminded him, of all those years ago, when he would bed down with dogs, who gave affection without asking for anything in return. Such a rare thing in this world.

Shaking those thoughts from his head, Lestat refocused on the idea of flight. He smirked slightly, his pale features shifting into an amused look. It was still an action that gave him a thrill every time he did it. That he could be so powerful, he was amazed, still. To fly, to spend time in the sun…it was why he had been so troubled at first. Troubled enough to attempt to die, to become human for a while. With the new powers, with the loss of true limitations, it was like he was never human at all.

He still reveled in his being, his soul. Tossing his long blond hair slightly, he quirked an eyebrow. No one would ever deny that ‘the brat prince’ was anything but an impetuous ass. But he wouldn’t have it any other way. But still, there was that press of loneliness. Despite his tries to keep others close to him, they always left, disappearing into the darkness. Louis would most likely be back, but he wondered if it would ever be the same. Armand was quickly losing his mind, and the ancients had all but disappeared once more.

His greatest fear was that eventually everyone he knew would pass into the final darkness, and he would be left; the soul survivor in his memories. But he mustn’t get too down on himself. It would lead to nothing. It was much easier just to ignore the thoughts for now. Pushing up on his feet, he took to the sky, touching any minds around (mostly just homeless drunks) to forget what they saw. He just needed to get away from everything, so he took to the sky, pressing above the clouds, and just floating in the air currents. With his eyes closed, he just let it all drift away, not caring where he landed, as long as it was away from here…

Comms Sample:

[The device turns on, revealing a blonde man, looking incredibly bored. He looked beautiful in his boredom; it is half affectation, his hair carefully tossed, a little pout on his wide, generous mouth. It's clear that the man knows very much how he looks, and is almost arrogant in regards to it.

It would remind some of a spoiled child, having been told to sit in a corner.]

This place seems to have the chance to be exceedingly interesting...

[And a sigh is issued, now, and his eyes fall to look down at his hand, off screen,]

...or exceedingly boring.

I hope it isn't the latter.

[He raises his eyes to the screen, once more, and his mouth quickly quirks upward into a smirk, a hint of his unnaturally white teeth showing.]

You wouldn't like me bored.
